Pricing

BCW Engineering charges $60 per hour — significantly below typical industry rates.

Larger firms often provide a lump-sum proposal built on a high assumed hourly rate, anywhere from $125 to $200+ per hour. That premium is typically a hedge against project uncertainty: it's hard to know in advance how many hours a project will actually take, so the rate gets padded to cover the risk.

BCW takes a different approach. We break work into two phases, so your financial exposure is known and minimized before you commit to full project delivery.

Phase 1: Preliminary Due Diligence

Phase 1 typically includes:

  • Concept plan preparation

  • Pre-application meetings with permitting authorities

  • Records requests for previously permitted improvements

  • Review of existing conditions and proposed improvements for compliance with land development codes, including:

    • Zoning

    • Site design

    • Stormwater management

    • Utilities

    • Access management

    • Landscaping

    • Fire/rescue compliance

  • Preliminary cost estimate preparation, including construction costs, impact fees, and permitting fees

Phase 1 is typically completed in 2 to 3 weeks, depending on response times from permitting authorities. It's billed on a time-and-materials, not-to-exceed basis, for a pre-agreed number of hours — so if your project turns out not to be feasible, you'll know that with minimal financial exposure, before committing to full design.

Phase 2: Primary Project Delivery

Once Phase 1 is complete and you decide to move forward, BCW will provide a proposal with an estimated number of hours for each task identified as necessary in Phase 1 — before commencing primary design, engineering, and permitting.
